If one really wants to know what the democrat controlled congress, senate and White House thinks of our elderly in this country all they have to do is take a close look at their actions in just the past two months. In September 2009 it was announced that social security recipients would not be receiving their cost of living increase, this is the first time since 1975 that they will not get an increase and those who participate in Medicare part D will see their social security payments drop about $2.00 because of an increase in premiums. After all of those years of hearing how the republicans would rape social security and Medicare all it took was nine short months for those who were accusing everyone else to do it.
If that were not enough of a slap in the face to seniors everywhere what they have done now after telling them how it is a bad economy and everyone has to make sacrifices is an even bigger slap in the face and one that simply cannot be ignored. The senate approved a 4.66 billion bill to fund the legislative branch for 2010, and sent it to the president, in this bill congress is giving itself a 5.8% raise this year, seems some people don’t have to sacrifice as much as others. They unlike the seniors or you and I do not have to worry about things like medical care because you see they pay a total of $530.00 per year for their care and that includes a doctors office in walking distance from their office, no waiting and they even have their own pharmacy, but the seniors of America must sacrifice so they can spend more money on things only they really want.
Now I don’t know about you but I have always believed that action speaks louder than words, and right now their actions are speaking so loud we simply cannot hear their words. They cannot blame this on the republicans since they have bragged over and over they don’t need their votes to pass anything, occasionally they act like they do to throw some of the heat off of them selves but the fact of the matter is the republicans couldn’t stop a speeding freight train in either house at this point and that is what this has turned into. The house and senate has been occupied by a bunch of elitists, who answer every compliant of the people with charges of racism, a hungry monster who threatens to devour everything in its path with no way to stop it.
These people who are being told they must do without are not among the rich and powerful, most of them do good to make till the end of the month. They are the people who built this country, taught our parents in school, fought for our country, these are our grand parents for God’s sake and they are being told when everything around them is going up they must sacrifice their cost of living increase so congress can have theirs. Our senior citizens deserve better than this.
